I try my best to avoid the news, especially in the mornings, but this particular event has had so much global repercussions that there's a slim chance one could completely avoid hearing about it, especially on the Internet.
As a Filipino who had seen the drama unfold live on TV, I'm sad (and angry!) at what happened to the hostages, and I extend my sympathies to the friends and families of Mendoza's victims. I wish I could say our police force were competent enough to handle the situation but, unfortunately, that is not the case. I can only look forward to a future of forgiveness and reconciliation between the Philippines and Hong Kong, and hope for the healing of wounds to begin eventually, if not soon.
